"That's me in the corner. That's me in the spotlight losin' my religion. Trying to keep up with you, and I don't know if I can do it. Oh no I've said too much. I haven't said enough. I thought that I heard you laughing, I though that I heard you sing. I think I thought I saw you try." Was what blared through Bailey's headphones as she made her way into Grissom Park. Since her mom still lived in the eighties, it seemed that Bailey had been taken on the ride through poofy hair, Scott Baio, and colorful headbands. In fact, Bailey had the soundtrack to Pretty Woman in the CD holder in her car... Why couldn't her mother just get with the times? Carla could be really embarrassing at times...
Bailey's MP3 player could be a hassle sometimes. It didn't seem as durable as the silver iPod she longed for, but she would just have to deal until Christmas, or possibly later. Thankfully Christmas wasn't that far away... just four months. Oh yeah, the wait wasn't really that long. And, in case you couldn't tell, that was sarcasm. Sigh. Bailey continued into the park with her MP3 in her right hand, her cell phone in her left. She seemed pretty sensible about the whole in-case-of-an-emergency subject, and it was one of the only things she always remembered.
The sky was a beautiful blue, the trees and grass were a lush green, and the sun was shining brightly through the clouds. It was a rather pretty sight, but the meaning knocked a few pegs off. Back to School. The day was quickly approaching and Bailey hadn't really done anything with her summer. Just lounging around and snacking ever so often, oh and the band camp crap that her band conductor makes everybody attend. Those were murder! Four hours of the band lugging around instruments in their band uniforms memorizing steps. But it was one of the two things Bailey was hoping to get a scholarship for to help out with her college tuition.
Bailey sat down gently in front one of the many trees surrounding the area and leaned her back gently on the bark of the tree. As she did that, the song changed with it. A piano softly started the song, followed by a gentle guitar intro. "Staring at a maple leaf, leaning on a mother tree. I said to myself 'We all lost touch.' Your favorite fruit is chocolate cherries and seedless watermelon, ohh. Nothing form the ground is good enough. Body rise, look what's over me." One of Bailey's few secrets was that she had a 'thing' for Gavin DeGraw. He just seemed so simple, which was rare in a male singer. Or at least it was to her.
Later she would probably have to go and get the rest of her school supplies, which was a pain. Choosing the 'good' kind of pencils, the right kind of paper, and a cool backpack that wouldn't rip at the bottom within the first week. Oh, why did summer have to end?
